Podcast를 뜯어보쟈~!!!

우선 Podcast의 정의 부터.

A podcast is a media file that is distributed by subscription (paid or unpaid) over the Internet using syndication feeds, for playback on mobile devices and personal computers.
 Like 'radio', it can mean both the content and the method of syndication. The latter may also be termed podcasting. The host or author of a podcast is often called a podcaster. The term "podcast" is derived from Apple Inc.'s portable music player, the iPod. However, known synonyms for the word pod are capsule, case, container, hull, husk, shell, and vessel. A pod is obviously a container of some sort and the idea of broadcasting to a container or pod correctly the describes the process of podcasting. Though podcasters' web sites may also offer direct download or streaming of their content, a podcast is distinguished from other digital audio formats by its ability to be downloaded automatically, using software capable of reading feed formats such as RSS or Atom.

란다. 그렇다 영어다.
흔히 알려진대로 iPod + broadcasting 가 합쳐서 PodCast 라는 합성어가 된것만은 아니라는 거다.

 
머리아파지기 시작하는 분들을 위해서 podcast를 한글로 설명해준 블로거 (보고모님)이 설명을 빌리자면

아무튼 Podcast를 정의하자면 XML 파일을 이용한 Mutimedia File Feed 입니다.
 즉, RSS의 Mutimedia 버젼인 것이죠. XML로 MP3 파일이나 사진파일, 동영상 파일등의 위치와 구조정보등을 전송하면, 자동으로 멀티미디어파일을 전송받아 플레이 해주거나 Device로 전송해 주는 방송구조를 말하는 것입니다.
 Winamp 방송같은 실시간 방송은 아니지만, Feed를 등록만 해 놓으면 새 방송이 업로드 될때 마다 자동으로 다운받아지는 기능은 상당히 편리한 것이죠.
 Podcast는 그래서 지금 가장 주목받고 있는 Web 2.0식 방송 형태라고 할 수 있습니다

다시 말해서. RSS 의 형제라 하겠다.
Podcast를 청취하기 위해서는 일반적인 RSS Reader 만 있어도 가능하다.
다만, podcast의 xml 에는 아이템마다 <enclosure> 라는 태그가 있어서
미디어 파일의 위치(url), 형태(type), 용량(length)
을 명시하고 있는데, 이 정보에 주목하는 podcst 전용 리더 (iPod에 들어있는게다)를 이용하면, 좀더 편리한거뿐...

ㅎㅎㅎ 즉 다시말해서.. 이 podcast.xml을 제대로 파싱만 하면, podcast 리더 작성은 어렵지 않다는 뜻이다!!!
